The tax code, which is the citizen’s means of identification in relations with Italian authorities and public administrations, is issued by the Agenzia delle Entrate (Inland Revenue Agency).
It can be requested abroad, both by Italians and foreigners, through the consular office.
The tax code is issued immediately through a special telematic connection with the Fisconline service of the Inland Revenue Agency. The card is sent later by the said Agency.
In order to request the tax code at the consular office, you need to submit a request form together with a copy of an identity document.
